Morel mushroom hunting season starts soon

Morels can be found in moist woods, river bottoms and on south-facing slopes, according to the Missouri Department of Conservation. They typically pop up overnight and grow in 24 to 48 hours. Late spring is the most common time to watch for mushrooms on the ground.
 
According to the Missouri Department of Conservation, most wild mushrooms taste better than grocery store selections, but there is no test to determine edible versus poisonous mushrooms. The only real way to tell is by positive identification.
 
Experts say to enjoy, but approach with caution and to not eat a mushroom unless it is positively identified.
